GetInvolved

One of the goals of CFE is to find and work with family members and fictive kin in the creation and development of a lifetime network. These engagement tools are helpful for the use with children, parents, and relatives to learn about who they identify as important people to them.

Click on which tool you feel would work best with the child and/or family, print as many copies as you need, and complete it with them. If you need copies printed, please feel free to stop by our office and we will gladly print them for you.

Three Houses: This is a tool that gives the child a picture of the outlines of three houses. “House of Worries”, “House of Good”’ and “House of Dreams”. The child will write, draw, or dictate under each house.

Family Tree: This tool gives the child or family member a picture of a tree with an open area to place names. Some may only be able to supply an informal name i.e., “grandma” or “grandpa”, but if possible, providing first and last names along with the informal name is very beneficial.

Infant/Toddler Timeline: This is one of the suggested visit timelines for a parent with their infant or child up to age 5.

Circles of Trust: This tool is a diagram of concentric circles with the personas name in the center and who they are connected to in the same or outer circles. This can visually indicate how connected or not they are to the network around them.

Who Loves This Child: This tool allows for the child and/or family to place a name is each bubble of who loves the child: Family, Neighbors, Friends, Teachers, Church Family, etc. Again, some may only be able to supply an informal name i.e., “grandma” or “grandpa”, but if possible, providing first and last names along with the informal name is very beneficial.

Mobility Map: This is a visual timeline drawn of their life, starting from where they first lived and/or their first memory, up through the present day.

Placement EcoMap: This tool is useful in exploring relationships, involvements, and activities in areas such as family, friends, employment, hobbies, religious affiliations, sports, neighbors, etc.

Name the Emotion: This is a fun game to play to either break the ice or to get to know the child better. Simply throw a die and you must name the emotion you land on. Talk about why the child thinks that. This could extend to talking about a time when the child felt like that.

Knowing Me: This is a tool with three divided sections- I am-I want- I need. Have the child either write, draw, cut and paste, or dictate in each section.
